I am a 53 yr old canal novice. I bought the boat from a really nice chappie in Tewksbury , John and Chris (his adult son) helped sail her to Gloucester . I have moored the Water Witch at Monk Meadow, just along from the Sainsbury’s canal side store at Gloucester (you can see the zig-zag roof in some of the attached pics). The area is being rejuvenated, and with two fashion mad daughters the new ‘Quays’ Outlet shopping is an added attraction. I will be hosting a few rugby mates on-board at weekends for the matches, sailing into the Dock area for the bars and restaurants of course.

Up and down the pubs on the Glos canal will be my main cruising activity, but after sailing the Avon I am keen to get back on the river and head north in the spring. As a Liverpool lad (well Wallasey really) it is a target to reach the North West come next season.

Water Witch has a dated and basic fit at present. I will refit the interior (add inverter, heating, audio, kitchen units etc) over the next six months. I would like a newer Norman (27 preferably) in the future. You will see she still has the GRP window screen fitting. The awning is excellent, so many configurations to zip it down to (a Swift make apparently).

I spent a career in the RN (22yrs) and missed spending the odd night bobbling about. Hopefully Water Witch won’t suffer the fate of my trail of war canoes – all six scrapped/sold/sunk as I served on them ( Sheffield possibly the best known of the bunch – pic attached of her as I last seen her before she Excocet’ed to submarine service).

Hopefully my naval engineering background will be useful as I try to deck out my Norman . The tips and feedback on the site have whetted my appetite to get on with jobs,

I will up-date with any pics as I go,
